According to local media reports, Lufthansa has delayed the launch of flights for its new City Airlines subsidiary.
AeroTELEGRAPH has reported that the planned summer 2023 start for City Airlines will not go ahead, as it is lacking aircraft and personnel. Currently, the airline has a single Airbus A319 aircraft, registered as D-AILX.
The narrow-body jet, which was transferred from Lufthansa CityLine in May 2023, is stored at Munich Airport (MUC), according to ch-aviation.com data. Airbus delivered the aircraft to Lufthansa in 1998.
City Airlines – an entity distinct from Lufthansa CityLine – received its Air Operator’s Certificate (AOC) in June 2023. The German civil aviation authority Luftfahrt-Bundesamt (LBA) data showed that the new airline’s AOC is identified as D-425.
Currently, the airline does not offer the ability to book flights on its website. Instead, its homepage describes itself as an airline that will “take you to the most beautiful places in Europe” whether it would be for business or “beach fun”.
“As a new airline and the youngest member of the Lufthansa Group, we are thrilled to fly daily from our home base in Munich to major European cities and remote regions,” City Airlines continued.
Three other pages are available on the airline’s website, namely ‘Company’, ‘Jobs & Career’, and ‘Contact”.
The Job & Career page says that job postings “can be found here starting in summer 2023”, inviting candidates to be a part of “a lively and dynamic team”.
