Lufthansa has introduced its newest airline brand, Discover Airlines, which was previously known as Eurowings Discover.
The newly rebranded airline’s first flight is scheduled to depart from Frankfurt Airport (FRA), Germany, to Palma de Mallorca Airport (PMI), Spain, at 4:30 PM local time (UTC +2), leaving PMI on a return flight to FRA at 7:25 PM local time (UTC +2).
Discover Airlines will operate the flight with an Airbus A320, registered as D-AIUR.
“We first got off the ground during the pandemic as a company wholly owned by Lufthansa under the umbrella of the affiliate Eurowings brand,” the Discover Airlines’ description page read, adding that since July 2021, it was fully integrated into Lufthansa hubs at FRA and Munich Airport (MUC) as a leisure airline.
Now, “travelers will get to discover our new look – and so much more”.
“At the core of the Discover Airlines brand is the joy of travel and the discovery and rediscovery of beautiful places, experiences and moments,” the page continued.
And while the Airbus A320 will wear the airline’s new livery, which is an all-white fuselage with a tail painted in yellow and several different shades of blue, the cabins will still retain the Eurowings Discover branding until at least December 1, 2023.
According to the airline, this is the result of “longer production lead times” on aircraft cabin items. Furthermore, for sustainability reasons, “disposable items will be completely used up first, then reordered in the new design”.
Discover Airlines’ Chief Executive Officer (CEO) is Bernd Bauer, who is also the CEO of Lufthansa Group’s other leisure airline, a subsidiary of Swiss International Air Lines, Edelweiss. Lufthansa appointed Bauer as the joint CEO of both carriers in September 2022, saying that while the two “will remain independent in the future”, the move will “expand their tourism competence in the future”.
Bauer assumed the position on October 1, 2022, when the airline was still known as Eurowings Discover.
