The RF 24-105mm f/2.8L IS USM Z won’t be the last RF PowerZoom lens

Canon announced the RF 24-105mm f/2.8L IS USM Z last week with a lot of fanfare. With that lens came two PowerZoom accessories, the PZ-E2 and PZ-E2B. The latter utilizes the 20pin port with allows it to work with compatible Canon cinema and broadcast accessories.

Over the weekend we were told that the RF 24-105mm f/2.8L IS USM Z won’t be the last of the PowerZoom compatible RF mount lenses for the EOS R system, and that we can expect “at least two more in the next year or so”.

Last month we reported that Canon would release an internal zoom RF 70-200mm f/2.8L IS USM lens next year, and it seems that it too will be compatible with the PZ-E2 and PZ-E2B.

This shouldn’t be a shock, a $1000+ accessory should work with more than one EOS R lens. Unlike the PZ-E1, which was about $200 and only compatible with the EF-S 18-135mm f/3.5-5.6 USM.

The same source suggested that a “superzoom” would also be added to the PowerZoom lineup of lenses next year.
